Orlando Frazao
INESC TEC
Portugal

Brief Bio
Orlando Frazão, was graduated in Physics Engineering (optoelectronics and electronics) from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his Ph. D. from University of Porto, Portugal, on optical fibre sensors based on interferometry and non linear effect. From 1997 to 1998, he was with the Institute of Telecommunications, Aveiro as scholarship in the European Project UPGRADE (High Bitrate 1300nm Upgrade of the European Standard Single Mode Network.). Presently, he is a Senior Researcher at Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit, INESC Porto and as a head group of optical fiber sensor for Physical measurement. His present research interests included optical fiber sensors and optical communications. He realized several National research projects in optical sensing and optical communications and also participated in the European project (NEXTGENPCF – Next Generation Photonic Crystal). He has several bilateral cooperation between France (Xlim Université de Nice Sophie Antipolis), Spain (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) and Brasil (Universidade Federal do Para (UFPA). He has three awards. He is also senior member of the OSA and SPIE.
Rogério N. Nogueira
Instituto Telecomunicações Aveiro
Portugal

Brief Bio
Rogério Nogueira Holds a Ph.D. degree in Physics and a MIT Sloan School Executive Certificate. He is Principal Research Scientist at Instituto de Telecomunicações. He is the Optics and Photonics Area coordinator for IT. He was invited professor at Universidade de Aveiro and and Instituto Politécnico de Saúde Norte and visiting Professor at UTFPR (Brazil). He is Vice-President/Co-founder of the Portuguese Optical Society and Vice-President of the Portuguese branch of the International Commission for Optics (ICO). He is also member elected of the Board of Stakeholders of the Photonics21 PPP. He has co-authored >450 publications including books, books chapters and 8 patents related to optical sensors and communications. Serves the scientific community by being Chair and TPC member of international conferences such as OFC, ECOC, or ICPOF and Associate Editor in journals. He is expert for international funding programs such as Horizon Europe and Eureka Eurostars or national funds in Portugal, France, Denmark, Cyprus or Latvia. Dr Nogueira has also relevant experience in the industry. Was co-founder of Watgrid SA and Innovation manager at Nokia Siemens Networks and Coriant. He was also General Director of Creative Science Park, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and society. His research interests include design and production of optical components, optical sensors, microwave photonics, fiber optical communication systems and satellite communications.
Ricardo Oliveira
IT Aveiro
Portugal

Brief Bio
Dr Ricardo received the PhD degree in Physics Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2017 and an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal in 2010. Ricardo is a Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações, Aveiro, Portugal and works on fiber optic technologies applied to sensors and short-range optical communications. His main research interests are focused in fibre Bragg gratings and long-period gratings, fibre optic interferometers, polymer optical fibres, photonic crystal fibres, fibre post-processing, optical 3D printing, among others. Ricardo has more than 70 papers in leading optical journals and conference proceedings.
