Title:

Spectral-luminescent Properties of Silver Clusters Formed in Ion-exchanged Antimony-doped Photo-thermo-refractive Glasses

Abstract: Photo-thermo-refractive glasses are now attractive material for developing various elements and devices of photonics. Influence of antimony oxide content in the photo-thermo-refractive glass composition and subsequent heat treatment temperature on the spectral-luminescent properties of silver non-metal clusters and metal nanoparticles formed with low-temperature ion exchange method were studied. Silver clusters in ion-exchanged Sb-doped photo-thermo-refractive glasses reveal broadband and intense emission in the visible and near infrared ranges. Absolute quantum yield of luminescence reaches 63% (λex=365 nm), which opens up new prospects for using such materials as phosphors for white LEDs and down-convertors for solar cells.

Title:

Electric-field Induced Birefringence in Azobenzene Thin Films

Abstract: It has been recently shown that solar light is able to induce a small birefringence in azo-benzene chromophore containing thin films, parallel to its surface. In order to enhance this effect, towards the development of energy harvesting devices, poly{1-(4-(3-carboxy-4-hydroxy-phenylazo)benzenesulfonamido)-1,2-ethanediyl, sodium salt} (PAZO) cast films were thermally polarized to achieve a net dipole moment in the medium. Therefore, creation and relaxation kinetics curves of PAZO cast films were obtained in terms of poling at different temperatures and applied voltages. Results show that the maximum birefringence induced is proportional to both temperature and applied external electrical field while the relaxation curves reveal that the residual birefringence increases with the temperature, behaviour which is indicative of cooperative orientation processes between the chromophores which in turn guarantees the stability of chromophores orientation.

Title:

Development of Graphene Oxide and TiO2 Heterojunctions for Hybrid Solar Cells

Abstract: This work reports the development of hybrid devices composed of organic and inorganic thin films, deposited on fluorine doped tin oxide coated glass substrates (FTO). The organic layers, graphene oxide (GO) and poly (ethylenimine) (PEI) were deposited by the layer by layer technique (LbL), through the aerosol spray variant. The inorganic layer, titanium dioxide (TiO2), was deposited by sputtering and the aluminium electrode by thermal evaporation. To characterize these devices was used UV-Visible spectrophotometry to observe the films growth and optical microscopy to analyze the surface morphology. Finally, the electrical measurements were performed by measuring the I-V characteristic curves. The final device (FTO/PEI/GO/ TiO2/Al)20 showed a significant change in the behaviour when interacting with light.
