Short Bio Maria Raposo is Full Professor of Physics at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, and Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Atomic and Molecular Physics. Her scientific interests are focused on the electrical and optical properties of ultra-thin films of polymers and biomolecules, interfaces and nanotechnology, colloids, and molecular architectures for applications in electronics, photonics, magnetism, and sensing. Her research also includes biomimetic membranes and the effects of radiation on biological systems. Her current work emphasizes the development of sensing devices for detecting trace molecules in complex environments, including air, tap water, wastewater, and natural water bodies. She is also engaged in studying radiation effects on biological molecules under cell-like conditions, using encapsulation in liposomes.

	Orlando Frazão INESC Porto Portugal

Short Bio Orlando Frazão graduated in Physical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He received his Ph. D. in Physics from University of Porto, Portugal. From 1997 to 1998, he was with the Institute of Telecommunications, Aveiro. Presently, he is an invited Assistant Professor at Dept. Physics and Astronomy of Faculty of Science at University of Porto and he is also a Senior Researcher at Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit, INESC Porto. His present research interests included optical fiber sensors and optical communications. He has more than 300 papers in international journals and conferences. He participated as organized committee of several International conferences. He has three scientific awards. He is senior member of the SPIE and OSA.

SCOPE

The AOMatSens special session addresses topics related with advances in optical materials sensors and devices covering aspects related with design, processing, characterization and applications. Main suggested target topics include:
